FOLSOM DAM - FIXED WHEEL GATE REFURBISHMENT

Folsom, Ca.

2011

SCOPE OF WORK

C&W Diving was contracted to widen the slots for stop logs in the penstock of Folsom Dam.

REQUIREMENTS

The C&W Crew was required to widen the slot in the penstock by cutting a 2'x 4' beam using a diamond wire saw then forming, installing rebar cages then placing concrete to create a new structurally integrated beam to support the designed slot width. 60'vertical scaffolding and fall protection was utilized during this operation as well as extesive containment procedures to prevent foreign material inclusion into hydro electric generating units. Post stop log placement underwater work was performed to seal any leaks in the stop log system.

AIMS ARTIFICIAL REEF PLACEMENT

Offshore Silverstrand, San Diego, CA

2011

SCOPE OF WORK

C&W Diving Services, Inc. transported 85 Artificial Reef Structures to the AIMS Range, offshore of Silverstrand Beach San Diego. The Reef Structures were placed on a 90’ x 21’ USN Causeway and towed by an LCM-8 vessel (M/V Elliot). C&W utilized a one-point anchor off the stern of the vessel and tied off to the caisson structure for movement. Structures were sent to the bottom using an 8-ton crane mounted on the port side wing wall of the M/V Elliot. The swell conditions were not optimal (approximately 2-3 foot swells), so the structures were lowered down and removed from the crane. Later, divers attached lift bags to the structure for accurate placement.

REQUIREMENTS

A representative from Merkel & Associates was aboard C&W Dive Support Vessel (M/V Elliot) during placement activities to verify placement. C&W was to place the artificial reef structures on the scour mats and to avoid placement which would prohibit channel and cable installation. Due to rock overburden, some structures were forced to be placed on the sand, outside of the scour mats. Verbal approval was provided by Merkel & Associates. All tasks were completed to customers satisfaction in semi-rough swell conditions.
