Ship repair and maintenance

C&W operates under the ADCI Consensus Standards for Commercial Divers and Underwater Operations. In addition to ADCI Standards, C&W trains its dive team members using the Department of Transportation – US Coast Guard Commercial Diving Operations Manual, the Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration – Commercial Diving Standards and the US Army Corp of Engineers published Commercial Diving Standard EM3851 1-1. More specifically, C&W ship husbandry operations on US Navy, Coast Guard and Military Sealift Command vessels are performed in accordance with NAVSEA STD ITEMS, Underwater Ships Husbandry Manual Ch. 16 and OSHA Title 29 1910.401 Subpart “T”.

With 45 years experience working directly with the US Navy, US Coast Guard and Military Sealift Command and Master Ship Repair (MSR’s) company’s, C&W is very familiar with Federal Contracting Regulations (FAR) and NAVSEA Ship Repair paperwork processes including Process Control Procedures (PCP) that include Diving Clearance and Quality Assurance processes, Ship Docking Plans, Inspection Deficiency Reports (IDR) and Conditions Found Reports (CFR). C&W management, administration and field supervisors are experienced and have an established history of working relationships with assigned Military, Federal Southwest Regional Maintenance Center (SWRMC) and ship repair company supervisory, production and contractual personnel that facilitates current on-going ship husbandry work.

C&W’s underwater vessel inspection program has been developed to meet the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and RINA requirements and passed their audit process and earn C&W ABS and RINA Certification to perform in water vessel surveys (UWILD). With ABS and RINA approval, C&W is regularly contracted and has extensive experience performing underwater inspections on military and commercial vessels for vessel owners, Captains, port engineers, insurance (appraisals and claims) and pre maintenance planning. Inspections include written reports, technical drawings and illustrations, underwater still photos and video. C&W video capabilities underwater allow topside personnel a realtime view of hull conditions and document survey findings.

C&W ship husbandry services include vessel hull cleaning. With its inventory of automated hull scrubbing units and experienced dive team members, C&W provides its customers an economical alternative of hull cleaning operations in the water vs. dry docking a ship for hull cleaning. C&W is able to and has been contracted previously to clean the propellers and running gear of vessels while in the water.

As C&W has been performing underwater ship husbandry services since 1978 and these services include the design, installation and maintenance of cofferdams that fit the many ship types in the US Military and commercial fleets, C&W has built up a very large inventory of proprietary designed cofferdams that are standard as well as those custom built for ship specific specifications and applications.C&W’s in-house and affiliated engineering expertise in the design and fabrication of ship cofferdams ensures vessel safety and success of cofferdam installation operations.
